Just to let you know we are going to hold the u15's Presentation Night at the Linden Tree Pub on the 19th may at 5.30 to when ever you want to leave !

If the weather is good we will be having a BBQ in the Beer Garden where the trophies will be handed out to all the players.

I hope you can all attend and enjoy the evening with us.

Can I have all the football kit returned to Phil or myself at this weeks training session. That includes training tops and thermals.

Training on friday is now going to be at Butlocks at 5pm to 6.30pm. There will be no charge for training and anyone can come along and join in.

All I ask is that if any of the lads cant make it could they please send me a text to let me know they are not coming.
I have been asked by a few people what the plans are for next season and who is going to be signed on etc.

Simple answer to that is that until I know what division we are going into next season in the City Of Southampton Youth League I'm not going to commit myself to naming the squad. There were only 3 divisions this season of 10 teams. We have only 21 teams above us in the Tyro league and at least 3 of those are not continuing next season so this would mean us being placed in the 2nd division. I have heard we are going to be joined by teams from Dorset and Wiltshire and if this is the case we may be put in Div 3. The rules are different next year with no rolling subs and the year after we will be playing against 18 year olds.

So Phil and I have got to get the planning right for next season and try and get the right balance to the squad and not have the same panic as we had at the beginning of this season.

They were crowned champions last week and deserved that reward, but we still had a chance to Finish 3rd if we could have beaten them. Botley lined up in a 3-5-2 formation and we tried playing a 4-4-2 with the view to get the ball wide and then get pressure on their back line. First half it just didn't work. Half time came and we were 1-0 down.
2nd started with us going with a 4-5-1 and this soon saw us get more ball. After early pressure we started to push them back. Our goal came from a long ball that was flicked on twice and Chris just chased down a lost cause only for the defence to panic and Chris then nicked it by the keeper.

If we win we will finish 3rd, if we lose or draw we will finish 6th. If we lose by 7 goals we will finish 7th.

So there is plenty to play for and I'm expecting a good performance from the boys.

I would love to finish our Tyro league campaign on a high and hope the lads can put on a show for everyone.

]]><![CDATA[Training, PIrelli Pirates and Botley ]]>Tue, 10 Apr 2012 12:30:08 -0800http://www.netleyroyals.co.uk/1/post/2012/04/training-pirelli-pirates-and-botley.html We are training at Butlocks Rec this Thursday 12th April at 5pm to 6.30pm. Anyone is welcome to come along and join in.

This is a one off due to Saints playing on friday night.

We are playing Pirelli Pirates at Station Road on Sunday. Kick off is at 11am so please be there at 10.15am.

We will then train at Station Road Rec on a friday at 5pm - 6.30pm to the end of April.

If all the boys want we can meet up on a friday to have a kick about through the summer to keep everyone going and interested. If the boys want a break then Phil and I will gladly put our feet up for a while and see the lads in July.

Presentation Evening. At the moment we have nothing planned but as soon as something is sorted I will let everyone know.

Our last match is against Botley on the 22nd of April. We still have a chance of finishing 3rd if we beat Botley.
Botley need to win one more game to secure the title but seem to have got the jitters since beating us 5-0.
A draw against City Central and a defeat by Warsash leaves them having to beat Hiltingbury or us to win the league.

We are now in 6th place and will finish there unless we lose by 7 goals. I would prefer that not to happen !

Also I sent an email about a quiz night. It is going to be on the 16th june at The British Legion. Teams of no more than 6 and £5 per person. The under 15's have been asked if we can get 5 teams up to take on the challenge of competing against the other Netley Royals teams and guests. Bring whoever you want to take part but it is an adult only evening.

Don't worry if you want to come on your own as we can make teams up on the night.

Please let me know if you can come or if you can't as I need to know numbers.

This was our last training session on the Astro Pitch as we will be training back at Station Road next week. NO TRAINING THIS FRIDAY.

We are playing Wyvern Saints at Station Road Rec this Sunday. 1st April (no not an April Fools Joke)

Kick Off is at 10am so could we please have all the lads up the Rec by 9.15am as they can help put the goals up.

Our last match will be against Botley on the 22nd April. This is a league match.

This will be our last training session on the astro and we will then go back to fridays at 5pm to 6.30pm at Station Road.

No Game on the 25th March.

We are now playing Botley at home on the 22nd April instead of the 15th April. Kick off will be at 10am.

I am planning a few friendlies and will confirm dates as soon as I know. If anyone is away or un-available over half term could you let me know.

]]><![CDATA[Botley Village v Netley Royals Match Report]]>Sun, 18 Mar 2012 13:11:17 -0800http://www.netleyroyals.co.uk/1/post/2012/03/botley-village-v-netley-royals-match-report.htmlIt was suppose to rain during the match but we only had a drizzle. Kind of sumed up our game.
We hoped that we would really give Botley a game to remember but sadly it never rained just drizzled.
With Westy back in goal Matty was unleashed on the Botley back 4, but our plans were soon changed when Jack had to come off with a foot injury. This caused use to change formation and Botley started to dominate. They scored after 11 mins and never really looked back. With the league title to be won today they really showed us how to play. Their passing was good and they retained possession and this frustrated us. Our back line was always under spressure. 1-0 became 2-0 after 20mins and soon became 3-0 after 30 mins.
I was glad when the half time whistle went. We did create four good chances of our own and the Botley Keeper made two good saves. Can't say it would have been fair on Botley if we had scored but, I'm not worried about fair when we are 3-0 down.
2nd half started the same as the first finished with Botley making all the play. The score was soon 4-0 and we were facing a good beating. Time to gamble with a 3-4-3 formation. This seemed to work for about 15 mins and we started playing in Botleys half of the pitch instead of ours. We had five good chances in the second half but failed to test their keeper. If only one had gone in.
Botley finished the game with a fifth goal when Westy made a good save but the Botley players followed up quicker then we did.
Final Score Botley 5-0 Netley

It wouldn't be fair to have a go at the lads after unbeaten run we've had, but we were giving a footballing lesson today. We have got to learn to keep the ball, pass short to feet and be patient In possession.
We've got good players in the team we just need to get the best out of them and we can only do that if we have the ball.
Bring on the return game on the 15th April.

AFC Hiltingbury 2-1 Alresford
Test wood 5-2 Romsey Town

These results still give us an outside chane of finishing 3 rd. if Romsey lose to Hiltingbury and Hiltingbury lose to Botley. All we have to do is beat Botley. There is a car park there and the pitch is behind the hall. Kick off is at 10am so could we have everyone there at 9.30am. (please don't be late)
Also, please try and get the lads to sleep at a sensible time as this game will be a physical test as well as a hard football match.
Botley are unbeaten in their last 9 games and if they beat us and Testwood lose they will win the league on Sunday. So lets make sure that doesn't happen this week.
Their last 3 games have seen them win v Warsash 1-0, lose in the cup to AFC Hiltingbury 3-0 and draw with Romsey last week 1-1. Our last 3 has seen us beat each of those opponents.
If we win this week and Romsey lose to Testwood we will go 3rd in the league. After the defeat to Totton on the 8th Jan and we were 3rd bottom this is quite a turn around. It just goes to show what hard work and playing with confidence can do for a team.
For Botley the nerves will start to show if they lose as they will have to win 2 out of their last 4 games to take the title and with away games to City Central, Us and AFC Hiltingbury this won't be easy.
We can't win the league or come 2nd, but what we can do is spoil the party for Botley this week and maybe secure a 3rd place position in the league.
It could be time for us to put on the party hats!

]]><![CDATA[A Wasp Can't Sting Twice !]]>Sun, 11 Mar 2012 13:11:01 -0800http://www.netleyroyals.co.uk/1/post/2012/03/a-wasp-cant-sting-twice.htmlThe Royals welcomed Warsash Wasps to Station Road on a lovely sunny sunday morning. The weather couldn't be more different to the week before with the pouring rain.

We had hope to do the team photo but, with Westy injured and Jack Parker not able to play we were stuffed again.

Dan slotted into center midfield alongside game changer with Aarron on the left and Crooky going right back.

The Royals got off to a good start and pushed WW back playing some good football. Link play between defence, midfield and forwards was impressive.

10mins into the game we won the ball in midfield and it was fed into Ross who flicked it to Aarron who skinned the fullback to open the scoring with a great finish. 1-0 Netley.

We carried on taking the game to Warsash and looked like scoring a hat full. Warsash dug deep and started to get the ball down play and we did the opposite and started to knock it long. With 25 mins played, Aidan and Aarron looked tired so Bricky and Ollie slotted in on the left to give us some energy.

Matty had to make a couple of good saves to keep us 1-0 up at half time. Quite pleased when the whistle went for the break.

Second half started pretty much the same as the first finished with Warsash trying to play the football and us defending well. We hit them on the counter attack which always kept them on their toes.

With 15 mins played the ball dropped nicely to Ross who showed what a class player he is with a great finish to make the score 2-0. Warsash heads dropped and we started to play some good football with a lot of pace.

Ross then scored his second to give us a 3-0 lead. Aidan replaced Slo Mo and hit the pass of the day to Chris who crossed for Ross to score his 3rd for a well deserved hat trick.

To sum up, We have a belief about us at the moment where we can dig in and defend so well. The back four were superb again today lead by Blade and Keiran. Crooky had a great game at right back and ollie did alright on the left with some nice passes. Matty in goal looks like he could become a top class keeper making the hard things look easy. Our midfield worked hard against the man mountain of a player and our wide players worked really hard. Up front Chris ran himself into the ground for the team and Ross was top class.

Congratulation to Ross who won Moo of the match with 10 out of 13 votes. It was a Mooving Mooment for all of us. Kim you are a LEGEND.........

Kick off is at 10am so could you please be there at 9.15am to help put the goals up.
For us and Warsash it has been a tale of two different seasons. Before christmas they hadn't lost a game and we were struggling and now we have taken 16pts from a possible 18pts and they have only won once in their last 6 games. It all builds for a good game. We know they are big and physical and it will be interesting to see how we deal with that this week.

We are training at the astro Pitch for another 3 weeks and then we will be back to Station Road.
